what is amps?

Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS) is a condition where pain signals are misinterpreted by the brain and intensified. The intensified pain signal can cause blood vessel constriction, which leads to an even greater pain signal and can eventually create a pain cycle. In simple terms, something that normally may not hurt, causes an amplified pain signal and hurts more than it should. For example, rubbing your arm should not hurt, but for people with AMPS, rubbing an arm can feel like pins and needles. AMPS can occur anywhere in the body. It can be in one area, a certain region, multiple locations, or total body.

AMPS pain is 100% real and the pain can get better with treatment.

It took eight years before I was formally diagnosed with AMPS. Eight years of visiting doctor after doctor, therapist after therapist, specialist after specialist, my body was broken and so was my spirit.

I encourage you to share your experience so that we can help others get answers faster.
